Vermaak third in half marathon

Vermaak competed in the women's 21.1km race held at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre in Boksburg

MARILISE Vermaak of Kempton Park finished third in her race at the 2017 Birchwood Cross the Line Half Marathon.

Vermaak competed in the women’s 21.1km race at Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre in Boksburg.

This year, the race saw 4 000 participants complete the 5km, 10km and 21.1km races in an event aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Athletes, runners, walkers, business teams and families from all over Gauteng took part in the marathon, which was held for the seventh year running, on March 26.

Among the participants competing were the deputy minister in the Presidency, Buti Manamela, and 2012 Comrades Marathon winner, Ludwick Mamabolo.

The 21.1km women’s race was won by Cobie Smith (Team Vitality AC) and the men’s race by Lebogang Clifford Nkofu (Ramaphosa AC).

The women’s 10km race was won by Cheryl-lynn Ceronie (Kempton Road Runners) and the men’s 10km by Donald Mashamaite (Bedfordview Country Club).

Participants received mini-massages from Mangwanani Boutique Spa post-race massage zone.

One of the racers, Nokuthula Msimang, was given the chance to drive a brand new Kia Picanto for a year, courtesy of No Finance Cars.
