Tembisa Golf Club invades the Vaal triangle
Joe Makati and Benjy Monyanyedi took the honours on the Friday at the Riviera Country Club after both scored 34 points to become joint winners, with Colin Sibeko taking third spot and scoring 33 points.
Tembisa golfers spent three days at three different golf courses in the Vaal Triangle thanks to a sponsorship from Billy Selekane.
The golfers played at the Riviera Country Club on Good Friday, followed by a day at the Meyerton Country Club on Saturday and finally at the Maccauvlei Country Club on Sunday to complete the three days at some of the most lucrative, yet also challenging, golf courses in the Vaal Triangle.
Joe Makati and Benjy Monyanyedi took the honours on the Friday at the Riviera Country Club after both scored 34 points to become joint winners, with Colin Sibeko taking third spot and scoring 33 points.
At Meyerton, it was again Monyanyedi who tied with Sam Serongwane thereby jointly taking the honours with a net score of 77.
It must also be said that this was one of the most difficult golf courses to play of the three days.
The third and final round was played at Maccauvlei Coutry Club where Mumsy Boshomane, a female golfer hailing from Midrand and who plays her golf with the Tembisa men every Sunday.
She played her best golf ever to beat everybody in the field including her husband Amos Boshomane who happens to be the chairperson of the club.
Mumsy fired a net score of 74 to beat all opposition.
Matome Maenetja, also known as “Mfana wa Ndi” which means the boy from Endayeni, finished second with a respectable score of net 77.
A golfing frenzy was enjoyed by all 24 golfers who participated marking and setting the tone for a great 2017 golfing calendar.
“Thanks once again to Billy Selekane. We believe he is really changing the face and shape of the game of golf in Tembisa as with his sponsorship golfers have something to look forward to. His sponsorship enables the club to raise more funds when they attend game every Sunday,” said the club’s organising secretary, Benjy Monyanyedi.
