‘Granny’ soccer players get full kit

They first started playing together because they wanted to be healthy and keep fit

A women’s soccer team (with a difference) from Ivory Park received a welcome donation from a company in Kempton Park.

Hollywoodbets Kempton Park, as part of its soccer sponsorship programme, handed over a full soccer kit to the Ivory Park Gogos, a team comprising players aged 55 to 74.

Hollywoodbets Kempton Park supports Ivory Park Gogos, a club which was started seven years ago. They are currently 20 players strong.

The players get together for regular practice sessions at Mahlangu Grounds. They first started playing together because they wanted to be healthy and keep fit.

Team members from the Kempton Park branch visited the players to hand over the kit.

Christinah Dlamini, club chairperson, thanked the company for its contribution.

“This donation has helped us a lot because we didn’t have a kit to play with. This has given us confidence and helped us to perform better.”

They said the team was well organised and united and they were proud that grannies were doing something to improve their health and they were happy with what they were doing.
