Festive season soccer tournament planned

The Pick' n Pay of Swazi Inn will soon present their 2nd Annual Soccer Tournament, which is set to kick off on November 18 and finish on December 10.

The Pick n Pay Swazi Inn will soon present their second Annual Soccer Tournament, which is set to kick off on November 18 and finish on December 10.

According to Tom Makhura from Pick n Pay Swazi Inn, the tournament will cater for two divisions, including the u-17 and senior teams.

“This is the second tournament that we have ventured into, as we want to see our children and youth in the community keeping busy in a positive way, especially during the festive season – and off the streets,” said Makhura.

Makhura added last year’s tournament was a success and they are hoping to upgrade the prizes for this year’s tournament.

“We’ve already signed a few sponsors and are hoping to sign more as we are doing our best to get enough sponsorship,” added Makhura.

The tournament will be played at the Ivory Park Extension 7 Mahlangu Sports Grounds and finish at Mehlareng Stadium on December 10.

Registrations for the tournament will be opened in July when the tournament organisers will announce their sponsors.

“We are encouraging local teams to prepare for the tournament. We also appeal for support from members of the community to come and be part and parcel of the games. We have seen that there are some young people in our areas who are not participating in sporting activities during the festive season. There are roaming the streets abusing drugs and alcohol,” said Makhura.
