Bees FC emerged victorious in the newly launched Powerico winter games at Winnie Mandela sporting ground on July 02.
Bees FC locked horns with Umlilo in a tough match that saw the game ending with 1 – 1 draw before going to a penalty shoot-out.
Vusumuzi “Chicken” Mbuna, Bees FC coach, said the match was their first game of the Powerico winter tournaments which kicked off on Saturday, July 01.

“In the first half Unmlilo was coming strong on us and we knew from our preparations that this would happen and we had counter-attack plans.
We had to absorb the pressure and turn them back from there. Umlilo is the type of team that likes to knock around and once you deny them the chance of playing their kind of football they panic. We were vindicated and our calculations were right; we then executed our plan. My boys were patient as planned,” said Chicken.
He said the opponent managed to score a first leading goal 17 minutes into the game.
“We scored an equalising goal five minutes after we conceded the first goal. Rangwane scored the goal.
We had no substitution in the first half. In the second half, I had to make a substitution”.
Umgijimi came out to make way for Nelisiwe whom they planned to use to counter attack the opponents.
“Umlilo was playing more on half of the ground and we had to defend deeply. I needed someone to take them on and it worked because they stopped overlapping. That was an advantage for us. Both teams did not score any more goals until the final whistle. The reason we could not attain any more goals was the lack of interaction between the players”.
Bees FC won 5-4 on penalties and Chicken said he is satisfied with the boys’ performance.
