Successful flying weekend for pigeons

On Saturday the GPU will liberate the pigeons from Gariep Dam, which is about 535km for RPC members.

GAUTENG Pigeon Union (GPU) liberated the pigeons from Trompsburg on Saturday, which is an average distance of 496km for Riverpark Pigeon Club (RPC) members.

This was also a combined liberation with other pigeon unions and federations, which meant there were pigeons flying between Krugersdorp in the west, Delmas in the east, Heidelberg in the south and Pretoria in the north.

In the young bird race, Riverpark had 14 members flying 198 pigeons and for the second week in a row Tallies Lofts (Jan Taljaard) won the race. Tallies Lofts had a winning margin of five minutes 10 seconds from Hilton Pitout in the second position.

The club scored eight positions in the GPU top 100 and Tallies Lofts was placed sixth.

The velocity for the winning baby was 1391.600m a minute, which is 83.496km/h, and the pigeon had a nett flying time of five hours 53 minutes 33 seconds. The top 30 positions for the young birds were filled in 22 minutes nine seconds.

With the old bird race, there were 16 members flying 263 pigeons and winning by a margin of only eight seconds was Beano Daschner, putting Tallies Lofts in second place.

Riverpark had six places in the GPU top 100 and Daschner was in 12th position and Oom Tallies in 16th place.

The old bird winner had a velocity of 1387.337mpm, 83.243km/h, and a nett flying time of five hours 52 minutes 34 seconds with the top 30 positions being filled in just 17 minutes 37 seconds.
