River paddlers training hard for upcoming season
Victoria Lake Canoe Club at Germiston Lake recently hosted a river race on the Klip River
RIVER paddlers are up and in good training as the year’s canoeing race season begins.
Paddlers are building up stamina and endurance in the hopes of participating in the world marathon championships which will take place in South Africa this year, while many are also getting back in shape for the wild white water races in the peak rainy season later in the year.
Victoria Lake Canoe Club at Germiston Lake recently hosted a river race on the Klip River from Daleside to Meyerton, through Henley-on-Klip, a distance of some 30km.
Richard van Zyl from Kempton Park and his partner Rod Carpenter finished the race in two hours 24 minutes.
