Yearling National coming up this weekend

Riverpark will also send its “hat draw” nominations

ON Saturday, Gauteng Pigeon Union (GPU) liberated the pigeons from Gariep Dam, which is an average distance of 560km for Riverpark Pigeon Club (RPC) members.

Riverpark had 14 members flying 195 birds in the young bird race and 17 members flying 272 birds in the open race.

When the pigeons were liberated there were clear skies and no wind. The old birds managed to narrow the 45 minutes between the liberation times by 20 minutes as the winning old bird had a net flying time of six hours 43 minutes one second, compared to the winning young birds’ net flying time of seven hours three minutes 35 seconds.

This race saw Hilton Pitout beating Tallies Loft (Jan Taljaard) by a margin of 30 seconds in the young bird race and novice flyer, Bakgat Lofts (Danalien Snyman) was fourth.

Saturday is going to be a very interesting race day as there are two young bird races from Colesberg (no open race), in which fanciers’ R200 ring nominations will compete.

The second race is also the Yearling National and the points scored will be allocated to the open bird scheme.

Riverpark will also send its “hat draw” nominations – three young birds who were nominated on the first night of basketing – to these races.
