Registrations are open for Tom Tom Tembisa mile race

The entry fee for the 10km race is R80 for runners who have been licensed

Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre will host the 6th edition of the TomTom Tembisa Street Mile Race on the 29 October.

“Registrations to take part in the event, are now open. This race is made up of a 10km running distance and a one mile race. The 10km race is limited to 1000 participants and the one mile race is limited to 500 runners,” said Donald Mathipa.

The entry fee for the 10km race is R80 for runners who have been licensed, while runners who are not licensed will pay R100 to enter.

“Teenagers aged 14 are welcome to run the 10km race. The one mile walk entry fee for participants between the age of 16-19 years, is R30 for licensed athletes and R40 for unlicensed athletes.”

Mathipa said teenagers from 15 years old will be charged R30 as an entry fee for the one mile.

“R80 000 will be given to the winner of the 10km race and the Pro Mile winners will take home R5000 each. All the race participants will get medals and SPAR Goodie bags.”

Mahtipa said among the visiting runners will be the defending champion and course record holder, Namakoe Nkhasi from Lesotho, who confirmed his participation through his coach George Gundry.

“The 10km and 21km Tembisa running champion, Lucky Mohale, will lead a strong field of local runners that include the winner of 2014 SA Marathon champion Desmond Mokgobu. An international star, namely Phillimon Mathiba, will be the other well known participant gracing the race.”

Mathipa said the event will be sponsored by TomTom South Africa, Ekurhuleni Department of Sports and Recreation, SPAR North Rand, M&M Marketing, FUTURELIFE, Brooks, aQuelle and AmaSipSipSA.
