Edleen Spar Kempton first rugby team rewrites the history books
The team broke a 28-year-old record, going down in history unbeaten the entire league
SATURDAY was a big day for Kempton Park Rugby Club as two of its teams won their league finals on home ground at Barnard Stadium.
The Edleen Spar first team beat Nigel 52-45 to become Merlin League champions.
In doing so the team broke a 28-year-old record, going down in history unbeaten the entire league. The club will move up to the first division league next year.
The u-21 side made it a double for the club when they beat Sasolburg 19-12, also in the Merlin League.

André Hartley, a proud first team coach, said, “The Edleen Spar boys pulled off a great spectator game with the team from Nigel keeping the score in check with every move made by Kempton.
“In the last seven minutes, with the scores equal and the last bench players going onto the field, we were able to steal victory from Nigel.
“All the glory to God for leading the pack, and to every spectator and every sponsor and coach who had something to add during the season. The Kempton boys, both u-21 and the first team, salute your all for helping us emotionally, spiritually and physically to rewrite history.
“We ask that potential sponsors contact the club for Kempton’s 75-year celebration in 2018 as we move up to the first division League.”
