Tembisa Golf Club to host major competition

This time around the competition will be held at Kempton Park Country Club

Tembisa Golf Club will host its third annual major competition at Kempton Park Country Club on August 27.

The most highly awaited American scramble golf competition, which will stage a partnership event where two golfers who believe in each other come together to take on the challenge of attacking the golfing layout rather than opponents.

Local lads like Lebo Makume, Lebo Letsoalo, Mayo Dimo and Stewart Mabena will take the opportunity to further shine as they have done so far.

Lebo Makume has been a marvel to watch and a great future awaits him.

Mporo Mathiyase of Umthambeka Section and his partner Tana Mowela, who hails from Mpho section but who now stays in Olifanstfontein suburb are undoubtedly the hottest pair and are indeed the favourites to win on Sunday.

Captain Comfort Mazibuko has roped in a seasoned sunshine circuit pro, Makgetha Mazibuko. It will be no surprise if the honours on the day go to their partnership. Joe Makati, Thabang Simon, Michael Lekhothoane, Harry Mthembu, Andries Maenetja, Sipho Sidu and Sobantu Sibandze will be amongst those who will fancy their chances provided they get partnerships that will gel and work solidly on the day.

Phumlani Maluka is the current Tembisa Golf Club champion and definitely the man to beat in 2017. Unless he partners with his dad in the event, he must get a good partner to be the second hottest in the running to win.

As an individual player, Maluka by far outguns everyone in Tembisa but this will be a partnership competition and requires a strong combination.

According to Tembisa Golf Club organising secretary, Benjamin Monyanyedi, the American scramble has over the years proved to be amongst the cream of the crop as far as major golfing events of Tembisa Golf Club are concerned. A whopping field of 60 players are expected. The Kempton golf course is in a much better shape it has been for some time.

“We will be grateful if Billy Selekane and son can come and enjoy the day with the super Tembisans albeit knowing how busy a schedule he has. Kempton Park Country Club, among others, have many prizes on offer.”

We are looking forward as the executive of the club to hosting a successful event that will contribute to our objectives and goals of subsequently nurturing one who can one day compete with the tigers of this world,” said Monyanyedi.
