Canoe polo makes waves on East Rand

Canoe polo is a “rugby game” with tackles, defense, chase and goals scored with a ball, on the water

YOUNGSTERS interested in canoe polo can join Ekurhuleni Kayak Club (ERK) based at Homestead Dam in Benoni.

KZN held its annual school’s canoe polo competition at the end of August with a very young team from ERK participating. While the team’s ages were 12-13 years, they participated in the u-16 division and did very well, finishing fourth out of eight positions.

Canoe polo is a “rugby game” with tackles, defense, chase and goals scored with a ball, on the water. Open days are planned at Homestead Dam on September 30, November 4 and December 2. Spectators interested are welcome to watch and learn how the games are played or try the sport.

The teams practice every Saturday morning from 9am until noon. For further details, call Chris de Bree on 079 659 5068.
