New season kicks off at KPJCC with mixed results

THE season’s openers took place on Friday night and Saturday morning with mixed results for Kempton Park Junior Cricket Club (KPJCC).

Heading into the new season the junior teams have been named in honour of the sponsors of Eastern Junior Club Cricket Association (EJCCA) to which KPJCC is affiliated. The sponsors of EJCCA, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year are Impala Platinum, Sun Carnival Community Trust and Carnival City.

U-8 Sun: Kempton 88/8 with Anthony Stockigt top scoring with 12 runs.

United chased down the target with one wicket remaining (man of the match Pasca Muteka 3/11).

U-10 Impala Yellow lost against Boksburg. Sihaan Singh scored his first 50 of the season with 71*.

U-10 Impala Blue beat Benoni Northerns by nine runs in a T20 night match. Kempton 109 (Mackenzie Ross 13, Zander Swart 13, Jean de Villiers 12, Vinny Ambrosi 12*, Dehan Muller 12*). Kempton restricted Benoni to 100 (Tino Mutekwa took four tickets and a hat-trick in his debut for Kempton).

U-10 Sun Yellow beat Actonville by seven wickets. Actonville 86/10 (Dylan Botha 2/8, Siharan Govender 1/7, Hanro van den Berg 2/7, Seth Nel 1/12 and man of the match Keanan Burger 2/10). Kempton reached the target in 13 overs (Dylan Botha 19*, Daniel Stevens 19*).

U-10 Carnival Blue beat Benoni by 51 runs. Kempton 132/8. Man of the match was awarded to Logan van der Bank for his 23 and 2/8.

Other top performers were Louis Mouton (24 and 3/10), Wade Breytenbach (21) and Ewald van der Linde (2/4).

U-10 Carnival Yellow beat Alberton in a tightly contested T20. Kempton 119/9. Alberton 118/3. Man of the match was awarded to Lukas Mostert for his 3/7. Best batting performances went to Joshua Venter (17), Hayden Mills (15) and Jarred Sander (13).

U-12 Impala Pink lost by three wickets against Boksburg. Kempton 159 with man of the match Werner Joubert top scoring on 53*, Reece Winter 33*.

Victory for Boksburg came with the last ball of the match.

U-12 Sun Blue played Kempton u-12 Sun Yellow and won by nine wickets. Sun Yellow 82/8. Sun Blue chased down the target in 14 overs with the loss of two wickets. Top bowlers were Deklin Bekker, Tristan Smit and Nathan Petzer taking two a piece. Top batsmen and man of the match recipient went to Declan Bekker for his 29 with Marcus Ballot contributing with 24.

U-12 Carnival Yellow lost against Benoni. Kempton 44. Benoni chased the target down with 13 overs to spare recording an eight-wicket victory.

U-12 Carnival Blue beat Champions by three wickets. Champions 179/4 with Bokang Nyandeni taking 2/33. A determined Kempton dug deep to win the game in the last over with Kyle Naicker scoring 82* and Luan Jordaan 27.

U-14 Impala lost to Bedfordview by 133 runs. The team gave their best effort but were outplayed by deserving winners. Despite losing, the team celebrated Unathi Felane’s superb bowling figures of 5/36, earning him the man of the match award.
