ISFO champion off to world champs

Van Niekerk started training traditional karate with Shihan Danie du Plessis in 1984.

GERHARD van Niekerk from International Sport Fighting Organisation (ISFO) Glen Marais will represent South Africa at the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) World Championships in Budapest, Hungary from November 3-12.

Van Niekerk started training traditional karate with Shihan Danie du Plessis in 1984. He obtained his black belt (first Dan) in 1988 when he was in matric.

In 2011, Van Niekerk rejoined Shihan Danie du Plessis at ISFO Glen Marais in kickboxing. He obtained his world title at the World Kickboxing Federation Championships in 2014 with the dedicated help, support and training from coach Du Plessis.

During the SAs in April in Durban, he won his division and became the SA Champion for 2017 in the u-74kg veteran division.
