Six-a-side soccer tournament planned for the holidays

The tournament is all about fun and they are not encouraging any alcohol and drug abuse behaviour

Tembisa former soccer players, Bongani Mavuso and Borotho Mathekga, joined the fight against alcohol and substance abuse when they organised a soccer tournament for the festive season.

The six-a-side football tournament will be played at Mehlareng Tennis Court. The two-day tournament will kick off on December 1 and end on December 2 from 5pm until late.

According to organiser Mathekga the primary objective is to conquer alcohol and drug abuse through sport.

“Alcoholism is a fatal disease that has no cure but it can be put into remission. As much as we want to help these young people and youth resorting to alcohol and drugs whenever they going through personal problems, we need them and the community to support this tournament to make it a success.

“Attempting to break the cycle of addiction on your own may never be easy. So, we are hoping throughout this tournament young people will be able to interact and reach out to one another,” said Mathekga.

Mathekga added the tournament is all about fun and they are not encouraging any alcohol and drug abuse behaviour.

“We want to keep the youth entertained and encourage them to focus during the festive season,” added Mathekga.

He is encouraging soccer teams to start registering. The tournament is open for all age groups and the affiliation fee is R350. For any information regarding the tournament, contact Bongani Mavuso at 081 245 1163 or Borotho Mathekga at 078 359 1671.
