The event received full participation in the marathon, fun walk, aerobics, soccer and netball

Tembisa South SAPS’ social crime prevention team, together with other stakeholders, hosted a sporting event to mark the 16 days of activism of no violence against women and child abuse.

On November 29 community members gathered at Esiqongweni Sports ground at Umthambeka Section to participate in different games.

SAPS member in police uniform is Deputy Cluster Commander Brigadier Frank Mthombeni, at the right side wearing black jean and black T-shirt is Tembisa South SAPS station Commander Colonel Nthipe Boloka and are both presenting prizes to members of the community who won.

Tembisa South SAPS communication officer Captain Nelda Sekgobela said stakeholders that were involved included Correctional Services, the Department of Health, the Department of Education, Child Welfare, Makhukhanye Rehabilitation Centre, Get Informed NGO, the Road Traffic Department, Department of Community Safety, NPA, NICRO, Social Development, Zinto entertainment, CPF, community patrollers, members of the community, youth around Tembisa and learners from different schools.

“The event received full participation in the marathon, fun walk, aerobics, soccer and netball.

“The purpose of the event was to encourage youth and community members around the area to be familiar with those types of games, to participate in them whenever they have spare time rather than being involved in drugs and other criminal activities.

“Different stakeholders took part in the event in order to provide the community and the youth with information as the organisations will never turn a blind eye to issues of criminality, domestic violence and abuse,” said Captain Sekgobela.

She said the sports event was sponsored by Coca Cola, MEC of Road Traffic, the Department of Education, Dube Tent and chair hire, Old Mutual, K2M funerals, Sipho and Mary bakery as well as the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
