Getting ready for the Dusi

Because of heavy storms and rainfall during the past couple of weeks, the water in the river flowed fast

FLORIDA Lake Canoe Club hosted a Dusi seeding and training race on the Klip River from Daleside to Meyerton on December 10.

The race involved 30km of paddling with two 2km portages where paddlers run with their boats.

With more than 100 entries in the race, it was the best supported local river race in months, as paddlers gear up towards the FNB Dusi which will take place in February from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

Because of heavy storms and rainfall during the past couple of weeks, the river was fast and furious and thoroughly enjoyed by experienced paddlers.

Ray Davidson from Kempton Park has been learning and practising his canoeing skills on rivers for the past year and is looking forward to testing his newly acquired river skills on the FNB Dusi in February.

Davidson, a member of ERK Kayak Club at Homestead Dam in Benoni, finished the 30km race with two portages in three hours and 41 minutes.
