There were explosive games in the Winnie Mandela’s Top 16 Soccer tournament played at the Winnie Mandela Zone 6 Sports Grounds.

Some of the local teams produced amazing results, head and shoulders above the rest, over the weekend.

On Sunday, Giyane Super Stars (GSS) FC took on Team of Choice FC in an entertaining game played at the sports ground.

Local fans and die-hard supporters had already packed the field when both teams started the encounter at a fast pace, but it was the Winnie Mandela Zone 8-based, GSS who opened a score first through the resultant corner kick when the opponents’ defence lost concentration and allowed an unmarked defender Lass Mathebula to score with a beautiful header.

Team of Choice missed out on some attempts at goal close to the end of the first half, leaving the score 1-0 in favour of GSS.

In the second half, both teams came back well organised and pressed relentlessly in order to claim victory.

Nonetheless, GSS managed to secure a second goal which gave them the upper hand through Jabu Chauke after he had received a well timed pass from their reliable striker agreement.

Team of Choice players were never defenceless about the 2-0 lead and made enough efforts to maintain their advantage, which their striker managed to put the ball behind the net.
