In the third place, Rock Nation FC walked away with bronze medals.

Speaking to the founder and organiser of the tournament, Makang Mathobela, he said he organised this annual tournament to encourage the spirit of football among youth during the Easter holidays.

“As a football fan and community builder, I joined forces with other community members to be able to host this tournament. Youth in the township are engulfed by dangerous substances such as drugs, alcohol and dagga.

“When the tournament commenced last year, I was aiming to remove young people from the streets and instil the love of football, and at the same time unearthing and developing soccer talent,” added Mathobela.

Mathobela, who is a local businessman, said the tournament is part of ploughing back to the community ever since he has been coaching local soccer teams in Ivory Park, Tembisa and Rabie Ridge from 2001.

“Football is the greatest sport in terms of inspiring discipline into our youngsters. We need more people to partner with us so that we can continue to groom and develop young people in football and sports as a whole. If we can all take part in growing these young people our communities can be a safer place to be,” added Mathobela.

He thanked members of the community who supported them throughout the tournament.
