Junior golfers swing into action at Kempton Golf Club
Junior golfers gathered at the Kempton Park Golf Club for the Hettie Els Tournament.
Sixteen-year-old Ryan van Velzen won the A division of the Hettie Els Tournament at Kempton Park Golf Club on July 8.
Every year, junior golfers showcase their talent at the local golf course and this year 53 girls and boys competed.
Despite the cold and wet weather, Benoni Country Club’s Van Velzen impressed with the best gross score of 65.
Four of the 53 players were girls, with the tournament’s youngest player being eight years old.
“The tournament is sponsored by the Ernie Els Foundation and Van Velzen has truly engraved his name on the longstanding Hettie Els Trophy,” said Marlene Haig, Ekurhuleni Junior Golf coordinator.”
The runner-up was Claudio Carvalo from Glendower Golf Club with a score of 72.
“All the golfers at the championships are amazing and talented. They really are doing an amazing job on the golf course.”Organised by Ekurhuleni Junior Golf, the tournament has been running for over 10 years and every year the winner’s name is engraved on the floating trophy.
