Locals win 8km race on Rietvlei Dam

The race usually kicks off the serious race season as paddlers build up for the A grade Fish and Dusi in the months ahead.

A Kempton Park dad roped in his son and a friend for the nine-miler canoe race at Rietvlei Dam, hosted by Centurion Canoe Club, on July 28.

Pieter Engelbrecht, his son JJ and a young friend Kyle Laxton, joined the K3 race in a three-man kayak, which is superb fun for beginners and novices on rivers with big white water.

JJ was in charge of steering the heavy boat on the dam.

The threesome enjoyed their race and finished in one hour 32 minutes as the winning K3.
