Van Staden is young bird champion at Riverpark
The middle distance races for the 2018 season have come to an end.
Gauteng Pigeon Union (GPU) liberated the pigeons from Middelburg on Saturday for the second overnight race of the season.
Riverpark Pigeon Club’s winner of the young bird race was Blackie Swart, who beat Le Roux Lofts (Pieter le Roux) by a margin of two minutes and 19 seconds. The rest of the results were:
Blackie Swart 1st; Le Roux Lofts (Pieter le Roux) 2nd, 4th, 8th, 12th, 24th; Flip van Staden 3rd, 15th, 18th, 22nd; Doves Nest Guest House 5th, 14th, 19th, 25th; Henry Mostert 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 21st; G&E Lofts (Graham Cheary & Elaine Russell) 13th, 16th; Sky Lofts (Corrie Moller) 17th, 23rd, 28th; Beano Daschner 20th, 26th; Bakgat Lofts (Danalien Snyman 27th and Albert Neilson 29th and 30th.
The pigeons in the old bird race were liberated 30 minutes after the young birds but they managed to catch up on the babies. Swart also won this race from Le Roux Lofts (Pieter le Roux) by a margin of nine minutes 42 seconds.

The race from Hanover on August 18 was the last middle distance race of the season and the club’s middle distance winners were:
Young bird single bird to count: 1. Flip van Staden. 2. Henry Mostert. 3. Pine Pienaar.
Young bird all birds to count: 1. Flip van Staden. 2. Doves Nest Guest House (Gawie Botha). 3. Henry Mostert.
Old birds single bird to count: 1. Doves Nest B Team (Gawie Botha). 2. G&E Lofts (Graham Cheary & Elaine Russell). 3. Doves Nest Guest House (Gawie Botha).
Old birds all birds to count: 1. Doves Nest B Team (Gawie Botha). 2. Doves Nest Guest House (Gawie Botha). 3. Blackie Swart.
The Middelburg race was also the last young bird race for the 2018 season and the club’s young bird single bird champion is Flip van Staden with Blackie Swart second and Henry Mostert third.
The young bird all birds to count champion is also Van Staden with Doves Nest Guest House (Gawie Botha) second and Henry Mostert third.
