Ivory Park’s Themba proving a hot property on the golf course
On Sunday of September 16, Themba posted 71 to beat an on-form Umthambeka golfer Mporo Mathiyase and Aubrey Molefe who both carded 72 to tie for second place.
With Lebo Makume and Mayo Dimo absent from golf, the super youngster from Ivory Park’s Harry Mthembu golfing stable is proving too hot for Tembisa golfers to handle.
On September 16 Themba Dube posted 71 to beat on-form Umthambeka golfer Mporo Mathiyase and Aubrey Molefe, who both carded 72 to tie for the second place.
Mporo came second to Themba during the Lamb Competition not so long ago. It is Mporo again who plays the second fiddle to the youngster this time around.
Ace Mthembu came fourth after posting a 73.
There was a loud cheer when Mthembu collected his prize.
However, it has to be said that the day belonged to Themba Dube as he faced the star-studded field, coupled with the difficult Kempton Park Golf Course layout and the August wind that howled and wreaked havoc to swings and making it difficult for golfers to play their best golf.
But the super confident youngster from Ivory Park, Dube, proved why he is fast becoming Tembisa’s hottest property, following in the footsteps of Makume as he conquered the conditions and clobbered all and sundry on the day. For the second time in less than two months, he collected a well-deserved first prize.
Mathiyase rued his chances when he dropped a shot on the final hole after birdying three holes in succession to finish second with Molefe.
Molefe is undoubtedly the deadliest chipper with super antics rarely possessed by amateur golfers, missing even among some professional golfers.
He drives the ball far and is accurate with his iron. But that is the nature of golf. Even Tiger Woods will attest to the fact that you cannot always win.
On September 24 all attention will be focused on the local golfing course of Ebuhleni with an 18-hole event hosted at the venue from 9 am.
Tee off will be at 9 am and golfers are expected to register from 7am.
Whitey Rathokoane, George Mokela, Sam Bhiya, Richard Nobela, Frans Molepo, veteran Reuben ‘Motsomi’ Motsomotso, are expected to feature in the tourney and are among the favourites to lift the title.
The Tembisa Golf Club bi-annual AGM will take place at Ebuhleni Golf Course on September 29. This will be an elective AGM. It is expected that a new leadership elected on the day will give a new direction to golf in Tembisa and the surrounding areas including Katlehong and Meyerton, among others.
All Tembisa Golf Club members are encouraged to attend the AGM.
