Valke in first division final on Friday

They will now meet the SWD Eagles at Outeniqua Park in George in the final on Friday at 6pm

The Hino Valke blasted themselves into the final of the Currie Cup First Division when they slaughtered the Leopards 59-19 at Barnard Stadium on Friday last week.

They will now meet the SWD Eagles at Outeniqua Park in George in the final on Friday at 6pm.

Said Rudi Joubert, director of Valke Rugby: “We started the semi-final in a very disappointing way. A number of unforced errors saw the Leopards leading 16-0 after only 20 minutes of play. We created two try scoring opportunities but failed to finish.”

Fortunately the home team scored two tries in the six minutes before the break to take the score to 16-12.

“We knew if we keep the ball and make the right decisions we could win this game,” Joubert said after the game.

The Leopards extended their lead to 19-12 shortly after half time but things then started to work for the Hino Valke. They started scoring at regular intervals and their mauls caused the Leopards problems, which led to two tries.

“We scored three tries from kick-offs received which gave us enormous confidence,” Joubert added.

One off the best tries of the day came from a middle scrum with a set move to the right that was perfectly executed. With the Hino Valke having an edge in the scrums and line-outs, they had a great platform to play from, outplaying the Leopards with nine tries to one.

The Leopards could not score a try in the second half.
