Young girls groomed in soccer
South African Girl Child Football empowers Tembisa girls in sport.
Tembisa women soccer team beat Daveyton women soccer team by 3-1 in a match organised by South African Girl Child Football on October 3 at Marhulana Primary School.
Founder of the South African Girl Child Football games Elias ‘CaptainSA’ Sibeko said South African Girl Child Football’s goal is to empower girls to strengthen and accelerate positive transformation in the lives of South African girls in football.
“With South African Girl Child we want to improve the quality of sports for both girls and boys. We ensure equal access to sports for all.
“By doing this kind of tournament we improve learning environments and save a girl child from unwanted pregnancies and harmful abortions.
“We are giving life skills to empower girls against sexual abuse and also arming them against HIV and Aids. We provide girls with opportunities to develop and exercise their leadership and technical skills,” explained Sibeko.
He said South African Girl Child Football aims to reach all townships of Gauteng and currently the games are staged in Tembisa, Daveyton, Katlehong and Pretoria.
“It was a fantastic match for both teams despite the score. However, they all played as a team and unity was key. All our women soccer players across the movement are treated as angels and queens because we value their future and we have good networking with the professional senior teams,” Sibeko added.
