Thrills expected at annual street race in Tembisa
The defending champions of the 10km race Namakoe Nkhasi and Mamorallo Tjoka from Lesotho are to compete in this popular 10km street race to be held on October 28.
It’s that time of the year when athletes in and around Gauteng will flock to the Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre to compete in the Tembisa Mile.
The defending champions of the 10km race, Namakoe Nkhasi and Mamorallo Tjoka from Lesotho, will compete in this popular street race to be held on October 28.
The race will be Tembisa’s seven edition this year and will see best performing athletes from various parts of the country fighting it out for the total prize money of R43 000, sponsored by Threshold SA. Spar goodie bags and medals are there for grabs for qualifying athletes.
The event incorporates a 10km run and walk. It will start and finish at the Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre next to Makhulong Stadium. It starts at 7am.
Race number collection and late registration will take place at the race venue on Saturday of October 27 from 10am until 6pm, and again in the morning of the race from 5am to 6.50am.
Registration fees for the 10km run and walk are R100 for ASA (Athletics South Africa) licensed athletes and R120 for unlicensed athletes.
The 10km is open to athletes of 14 years and above.
The registration fee for boys and girls in the 1 Mile race category is R40 for licensed athletes and R50 for unlicensed athletes.
The winners (men and women categories) of the 10km and Elite mile will each take home R2 000.
Spar goodies bags will be given to the first 1 500 finishers, and medals to all race finishers.
The defending champions of the 1 Mile race, Rantso Mokopane and Nicole Louw, form part of the stellar field of middle and long distances athletes who have confirmed their participation in this event.
