Plenty of prizes for Kempton Park bowlers
The club celebrated its most successful members.
Members of Kempton Park Bowling Club, all dressed in their yellow bowling gear, gathered at their clubhouse at Barnard Stadium for the club’s annual prize-giving on Sunday.
The honour of handing over trophies fell on chairperson Richard Connellan.
One of the most coveted prizes was that of Victor Ludorum, which Connellan ended up handing over to himself. Tania Kirstein was named Victrix Ludorum.
Tracey Macdonald and John Thain are bowlers to watch, as they walked away as the most improved players.
Thain was also named the winner of the men’s open singles and senior singles.
Bowler Marina Brink was certainly a worthy opponent, as she walked away as the winner of the women’s open singles and handicap section. Together with Gillean Nel, she also won the drawn pairs. Johannes Ledwaba was the handicap winner in the men’s section.
Howard Gibbons and Claude Turned were the unbeatable men in the drawn pairs.
Novice players Suzette Hamilton and Michael Hunt were the best players in their category.
The unbeatable selected pairs teams were Connellan and Jasper van der Westhuizen in the men’s section and Kirstein and Anna Mazaka in the women’s section.
The drawn fours men’s champions were Gibbons, Rodney van Jaarsveld, Richard Scrooby and Van der Westhuizen, and women’s Kirstein, Mazaka, Christa van Bosch and Hamilton.
