10-year-old wins gold at SA kickboxing championships
This event is the most competitive kickboxing tournament in South Africa.
At the age of only 10, Mikayla Humphris already has a black belt in kickboxing and has added a South African title to her name after winning her division at the recent South African Kickboxing Championships in Oudtshoorn.
This event is the most competitive kickboxing tournament in South Africa, as clubs from all over the country compete to be recognised as the best.
Nova Academy, a kickboxing club in Glen Marais, also participated in this tournament and Humphris was one of the team members present.
Coach JD du Plessis has been in the industry for more than 30 years and has trained and delivered multiple champions, not only in mixed martial arts, but also in kickboxing.
Humphris has been training with coach JD for more than five years.
Lukas Meyer (senior) took home a bronze medal in his division. He has been with coach JD for three years.
Keagan Norman fell out during the first round, but has shown tremendous heart and perseverance.
All three students were members of the Eastern Gauteng team.
