Class on Grass qualifies for the street soccer grand finale

Class on Grass are the streets champions

Tembisa-based Class on Grass is the first team to qualify for the street soccer grand finale scheduled for November 2.

This team qualified after being crowned first-round champions on Saturday at the Tembisa Plaza.

“We would like to congratulate Class on Grass for being the first team to book themselves a space in the final showdown of this tournament.

“We are hoping to see more teams participating in and making it through to the finals from all the other areas where this tournament is hosted,” said Peace Shabangu, the tournament’s director.

Class on Grass has an average age group of 32 years with the oldest being 35.

This team scored a total of 18 goals during group stages and recorded their name in the history books by becoming the first highest-scoring team.

“It was very heart-warming to see local young people spending their Saturday afternoon for this initiative. This shows that people are hungry for such initiatives. We are looking forward to hosting more teams and seeing local people coming in numbers to support. I am sure that Tembisa will be well represented during the finals in November,” added Shabangu.

He continued, “We would like to thank everyone who came to support our Street Soccer Tournament, especially our hosts Touchline Arena, our partners the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation as well as our favourite newspaper, The Tembisan.”

This tournament, which is hosted in partnership with the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation, carries prize money of R10 000 and a trip of a lifetime to Russia for the champions.

On September 14 the games will be hosted in Evaton Mall in Evaton.
