Tembisa sports confederation aims to improve sports in the township

The Tembisa 2 Sports Confederation is on a mission to restructure and improve the way sport is run in Tembisa.
This sport governing body met with members representing different sporting codes on Saturday at the Ekurhuleni municipal offices in RabaSotho, where a number of items were deliberated upon and resolutions adopted.
After the meeting, the interim president of the Tembisa Sports Confederation, sensei Paul Sehlabelo, said the confederation is not going to interfere with the running of clubs, but will ensure and enforce the smooth running of all the different sporting codes under the confederation.
“We want to help improve our domestic sport at the level of development and through this meeting we have agreed on certain terms and approaches on how we can take sport forward so that Tembisa can also be organised just like other townships.
“What is important is that we have different clubs, but there’s no organisation at the level of a confederation. This was our first workshop as a confederation. We have already adopted a programme of action such as organising workshops for our local referees, coaches and umpires,” explained Sehlabelo.

He said the confederation will also come in handy in terms of assisting local athletes selected to represent Tembisa and Ekurhuleni as a whole.
“Remember, once these athletes have been selected to participate either at a regional or national level, they no longer represent their own clubs, but they are representing the entire township. And this is where a community and a confederation must come in and ensure that these kids have all the required tools such as transport, accommodation and pocket money,” Sehlabelo stressed.
He further said that a resolution was adopted to host sports awards, where legends and masters of the game would be honoured.
With regard to funding and sponsorship, Sehlabelo said, “We know and understand that there is no one who would want to invest in something that doesn’t have a direction, and so we took a resolution that we are going to plead with all those within the sporting fraternity to be organised, and be visible, so that those who have
the muscle to help us can come to the party with confidence, knowing full well that their investment is going to assist our children and the cause of the confederation. The money and the resources should benefit the development of sport in Tembisa. We want to do good so that they (sponsors) can see what we are all about.”
