Tembisan athletes get good places at annual Tembisa Mile (many pictures)
Kabelo Seboko wins 10km race
The Tembisa Mile was hosted on Sunday at Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre, Makhulong Section which saw thousands of runners took to the streets.
Kabelo Seboko of Boxer Athletics Club won the men’s 10km in a time of 30:18 and Thobile Mkhize from KwaZulu-Natal won the women’s race in 37:17.
The first Tembisan athlete to cross the line was Phenyo Chidi in a time of 31:23 (seventh position overall) and Khutso Moketla was the first Tembisan woman to cross the line in 40:42 (fifth in the open women’s category).
The elite men’s mile saw Jerry Motsau reclaiming the title he won in 2016 in a time of 4:06 and the defending champion and course recordholder Ryan Mphahlele finishing in fourth place.
In the elite women, Prudence Sekgodiso successfully defended her title in 5:00.
Donald Mathipa, founder of Tembisa Mile said the race venue is getting smaller every year and they have to look for extra parking space at the nearest school or churches.
“I would like to thank all our sponsors, volunteers and athletes for their role in growing the running party,” said Mathipa.
