Bernelee is a star athlete in the making
Bernelee is now also becoming a force in open water swims, cycling and triathlon.
At the age of only 15, Bernelee Doster is turning into Kempton’s own super athlete.
Better known for her achievements in the pool, Bernelee is now also becoming a force in open water swims, cycling and triathlon.
She recently swam the 3km event at the Eastern Gauteng Open Water Championships, winning gold in her age group. Overall, she was also the first woman home.
The young star has now qualified for the 2020 SA Open Water Championships in Durban.
In the competition pool she has broken several records in backstroke events that have stood since the mid 1990s. She has qualified here, as well, for both the South African junior and open nationals in 2020.
The week before the open water championships, she rode the Discovery 25km mountain bike challenge, being the third woman home. The next day she was back in the saddle for the the official 947 race, completing the ride in three hours and 23 minutes.
Added to these achievements, she has qualified for the SA triathlon nationals three years in a row and adventure racing two years in a row.
The Eastern Gauteng Aquatic pool championships are in the first week of December. Bernelee and Kyle Mckenzie, both members of Aquatics Academy, have set themselves the task of swimming every event.
Every event has a final, which means they could potentially be racing 29 individual events plus the 200m butterfly, 400m individual medley and 800m freestyle events in five days.
