Kempton Park hosts BMX SA Cup

The aim of the establishment of the club was to localise an international sport that is loved by many in Kempton Park.

The Kempton Park BMX Club hosted rounds 4, 5 and 6 of the BMX SA Cup competition on July 1 and 2.

The two-day competition saw bikers as young as four, compete in an adrenaline-filled competition.

One rider, who stood out among the others was four-year-old Abem Kitaba.

He was the youngest rider in the competition.

Kempton Park BMX Club treasure Linky Wheeler

The Kempton Park BMX Club was founded in the 1980s by Joe Bico and Aaron Holdstock.

The aim of the establishment of the club was to localise an international sport that is loved by many in Kempton Park.

The club’s treasure, Linky Wheeler, spoke to the Kempton Express.

“We don’t have sponsors and we don’t get any support from the local government. I just want to see the club grow, get more members and sponsors on board,” she said.

Some of the winners from the Kempton Park BMX Club include Torres Perregil, Tyler Goode, Pablo Perregil, Cullum Wheeler, Duvan Renken and Clinton Posthumus.

Among the competitors, was South African born international BMX superstar, Tyler Klumper.

Now based in the Netherlands, Tyler loves coming back home to race.

“I’ve been living overseas for almost seven years now and coming back feels like a mental recharge. I absolutely love coming back to home to race at these events”, he said.

Tyler came home for the fourth time to take part in the national event.

He also shared some advice for young riders who want to be like him one day.

“Many people are stuck on results, so make sure that you’re enjoying every moment and not put any additional pressure on yourself,” he said.
