Kempton skater in running for Street Lines title

“Street Lines is the perfect platform for me to get some real exposure and show the world what I've got."

The highly anticipated Street Lines Skate Tournament presented by LW Mag and Dragon Energy Drink in association with Dickies, Garmin and GoPro, returns to Thrashers Skatepark for the third time.

It will be held on September 30.

This year’s event will feature Kempton Park’s Kelvin Vosloo along with the country’s best skaters who will battle it out for their share of the prize purse and to see who will be crowned event champions.

The legendary Thrashers Skatepark boasts a variety of obstacles for competitors to make use of during their runs, and to showcase their skills.

Through the qualifying rounds competitors will be pitted against each other where judges will be looking for use-of-park, variation, style and tricks to make their selection of skaters advancing into the finals.

Competitors will be competing for their share of the R50 000 prize purse as well as exclusive prizes from the official event partners.

The tournament will conclude with the best trick competition open to all competing skaters with the winner set to take home a GoPro HERO11 MINI.

Kelvin (27) from Kempton Park has been skating for the past 15 years and is looking forward to competing again at this year’s tournament.

Preparing for the contest, Kelvin has been training his mind and body by putting time in at his local skate spots with the goal of having fun, landing as many tricks as possible and making it to the finals.

He plans to show that he deserves to compete with the big names and is excited to skate alongside some of his role models.

Kelvin feels that Street Lines keeps Skateboarding alive while giving skateboarders a chance to get exposure and to better themselves, but also gives skateboarders in South Africa a chance to sit in Ranks, which is big for the up-and-coming skaters who look up to the pro athletes.

“Street Lines is the perfect platform for me to get some real exposure and show the world what I’ve got.

“The vibe is just so unreal, and the support is next level. It doesn’t even feel like a competition because your competitors want you to succeed and land your tricks. It’s more the hype that keeps the skaters going,” said Kelvin.

“Street Lines has solidified itself as one of the premier Skateboarding events in South Africa, creating a platform for the country’s top skaters to compete in a professionally run contest, while also offering the opportunity to develop up-and-coming talent.

“Our focus remains on the growth and development of the sport and we cannot wait for this year’s to take place, and crown the 2023 champions,” said Street Lines organiser, Ryan van der Spuy.

The tournament will take place at 241 Serene Street, Garsfontein, Pretoria. It will be open from 09″00 on the day.
