New club dominates local football

Birch Acres Heroes FC was only founded in 2022 and they're already dominating the U9 league. The team still needs a lot of support from the community to reach greater heights.

Birch Acres Heroes FC hopes to be the one football club that other teams watch out for.

Only founded in 2022, the U9 team finished fourth in their maiden season.

The 2023 season has just wrapped up and they won the league without losing a single match.

They won nine matches and only drew three.

Club members believe being part of the team has transformed the boys from being insecure and shy into being more confident.

The vice-chairperson of the club Monique Britton credits this to the coach, Kevin Thokozane Mbele.

“Kevin has developed these players who hardly knew anything about playing football to being some of the best players in the team,” she said.

Britton added that the club received sponsorship for a new kit from Kutting, but the team still needs support from the community of Birch Acres.

They would like the community to come out in their numbers next season, as the support from the community will surely further propel the team to greater heights.

Kevin has big hopes and dreams for these youngsters.

“The club wasn’t just started to teach them how to play football, but also basic life skills like the importance of staying away from bad company and working hard.

The caked was made for the team in celebration for winning the league.

“My dream is for them to follow their dreams and I always tell them that nothing is impossible as long they believe in themselves,” he said.

He further stated that sports keep children from bad things like drugs and alcohol and they are nurturing future Bafana Bafana stars.

“I believe in every one of them that they will be in five years from now. That’s my dream and I know these champions will be on top with their role models one day,” he said.
