Locals shine at national doubles tournament

The various doubles teams did well, with Eastern Gauteng winning eight titles. Four of them were from KCC, with Cathy Botma and Magdel Boshoff both winning two titles.

The annual Masters Squash Doubles Inter-Provincial Tournament (IPT) recently took place in Pietermaritzburg.
Eastern Gauteng was well represented, with 33 players participating from various clubs.

Kempton Park Country Club Squash (KCC) boasted the largest contingent of players from Ekurhuleni, with 11 making the trip to Pietermaritzburg.

The various doubles teams did well, with Eastern Gauteng winning eight titles. Four of them were from KCC, with Cathy Botma and Magdel Boshoff both winning two titles.

Boshoff and Irene Coetser finished second in the ladies’ section eight, while Botma and Mariette Liebetrau took first place in the ladies’ section nine.

Boshoff and Thinus Steyn placed first in the mixed section 14, and Botma and Coert van Rooyen finished with gold in the mixed section 15.

Mariette Liebetrau and Ian Cameron finished first in the mixed section 18, followed by Ronel Potgieter from Springs and Anesh Hurdial in second in the mixed section 18.

Steyn and Trevor Locke placed fourth in the men’s section 13, while Cameron and Neal Bromley took third in the men’s section 16.

Laurie Moth and Faan de Wet finished sixth in the men’s section 16, and Hurdial and Van Rooyen were awarded third in the men’s section 17.
