Action galore for Avion cricketers

The Avion U8 Sibali side also took on rivals from Benoni scoring 75 for the loss of four wickets.

Players from Avion Cricket Club recently faced their rivals in several matches.

First up was the Avion U8 Impala side who took on Old Bens.

Avion won the toss and decided to bat first. Avion made 98/6 in 20 overs. Old Bens replied with 97/8 in 20 overs to hand Avion a nail-biting one-run win.

Avion batsman Handré Cronje scored 24 runs not out from 47 balls while bowlers JayJay Bezuidenhout and Edrich van Pypekamp raked up three wickets between them.

Avion’s U8 Kingham side was next up in a match against Benoni.

Avion made 58/6 in 20 overs and Benoni replied with 60/3 in 12 overs to win the match.

The Avion U8 Sibali side also took on rivals from Benoni scoring 75 for the loss of four wickets.

Benoni replied with 73/9 to secure a two-run win from Avion.

Juan Jacques Kruger was named the best batsman in the match with 15 runs.

Avion’s U10 Kingham side took on Midrand in a match in which Midrand won the toss and elected to bat first.

Midrand scored 110 for the loss of six wickets in 25 overs and Avion replied with 113 for the loss of four wickets in 12.2 overs to win by seven wickets.

The Avion U10 Sibali side went up against Elsburg in Elsburg and batted first to score 115/5 in 20 overs.

Elsburg replied with 52 runs in 20 overs to hand Avion a 63-run victory.

Beko Zungu was announced as the best batsman with 12 runs and Luan Oosthuizen scooped the best bowler title for his two wickets for four runs in two overs.

The Avion U12 Impala side faced Kempton 2.

Avion batted first and made 87/9 in 23.4 overs and Kempton 2 replied with 89/2 in 8.3 overs.

In other U12 matches, Avion’s Sibali side took on Bedfordview in a 20-over night match.

Bedfordview batted first scoring 119/1 in 20 overs. Avion replied with 120/9 in 20 overs. Avion needed two runs from one ball to win the match.

The Avion senior ladies were pitted against Kempton Park for their match. Avion batted first and scored 283/7in 35 overs.

Kempton replied with 150/7 in 35 overs. Avion won by 133 runs.

Tenique Williams stood out with the bat scoring 76 from 51 balls while Alysia Rudolph took 2/19 in seven overs with the ball.
