Golfer wins the 2024 Tembisa Club Championship again

“I feel great that I won the club championship again because I told myself that if I show dedication, I can win again."

Kempton Park Golf Course was a hive of excitement on April 20 and 21 for the 2024 Tembisa Gold Club Championship.

A blistering 70 on Saturday, followed by another fine performance with 72 on Sunday, saw Ayanda Jako crowned the club champion of 2024.

The formidable chasing pack of defending champion Nzima Tsotetsi, with other close contenders such as Ntokozo Msipha and Thabo Phetoane, were left gasping after Jako held his mettle to produce a level par 72 in the second and final round on Sunday.

Jako’s two-day total of 142, a two under par, ranks the best for all Ekurhuleni golf clubs in 2024.

He also won the championship in 2019.

“I feel great that I won the club championship again because I told myself that if I show dedication, I can win again.

“It shows that I can win over and over if I put in the effort as I did this year and in 2019. It feels great to be a champion,” said Jako.

The B-division also produced excitement and drama when the overnight leaders, Khotso Matyiliza, Sipho Sidu and Douglas Dube, faltered under the heat and golfing strikes delivered by Leagilwe Magasa.

Matyiliza’s 82 on Saturday, followed by a disastrous Sunday round, saw Magasa upstage all in the B-division to hoist the trophy and cheque with a Sunday score of 81.

The ladies’ competition, which proves to be a one-horse race almost every year, saw the unchallenged Nozuko Jakavula again clinch the trophy and cheque in that division.

Ladies competition champion, Jakavula, shared her emotion for again being crowned the ladies champion.

“I have been a member of Tembisa Golf Club for the past decade, and I am also an executive committee member for two years. I have won the trophy for three years in a row. It is an exciting achievement,” Jakavula said.

Tembisa Golf Club organising secretary, Benjamin Monyanyedi, said he appreciated the tournament sponsors.

“Overall, it was a fine performance by Jako who now holds the kingship of Tembisa golf for the 2024 calendar year.

The executive of the club thanks Billeterie Software and Xarro Books as well as Dr Kays Mnguni for the support since 2019.

“We hope our relationship with them has truly been an inspiration that is contributing to the growth of golf in our township of Tembisa,” Monyanyedi said.
