BMX riders finish off the Slayer Grandslam final leg

Racers battle it out for a grand prize and the Grandslam final leg.

Kempton Park BMX riders showcased their racing prowess at the Cradle BMX track in Bothongo Rhino and Lion Park on February 9 during the third and final leg of the Slayer Grandslam.

Competitors from various classes went head-to-head, battling for a place in the top three.

The Kempton Park BMX Club riders stood out, securing victories in nearly every race.

Riders of all ages and skill levels took on the challenge, pushing themselves to the limit in pursuit of victory.

The Pro Purse riders delivered exceptional performances, racing fiercely for the grand prize.

Despite the tough competition, every race was completed smoothly, with competitors giving their all from start to finish.

The Pro Purse class featured seasoned riders who have dedicated years to the sport.

The top three finishers in this category were Alex Limburg, Alex Whitehead, and Zibosiso Mpofu. Limburg secured first place, Whitehead came in second, and Mpofu finished third. Each received a cash prize based on their placement.

According to Charmaine Fourie, Gauteng BMX secretary, Limburg has been a prominent figure in BMX racing for years, representing South Africa on the global stage.

His achievements include competing at the 2014 Youth Olympics in China, the 2020/2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics, multiple UCI BMX SX World Championships (2013-2017), BMX World Cup Racing (2015-2016), and holding multiple South African Champion titles.

Whitehead has also made a name for himself in the BMX community, representing South Africa at the 2024 UCI BMX Championships in Rockhill, USA.

In addition to being a racer, he is a dedicated coach for the Crupi Racing Team and a role model for aspiring athletes.

At just 17 years old, Mpofu is already competing in the elite class and is fully sponsored by the Crupi Racing Team, proving himself as one of the rising stars in the sport.

The Slayer Grandslam also saw thrilling performances from younger competitors in the 16 Expert Boys, 12 Expert Boys, and nine Expert Girls classes.

Among the standout riders were Aiden Nelson (16 Expert Boys), Pablo Perrigil, and Tristan Edgcumbe, who each claimed first place in their respective categories.

The event showed dedication and talent within the Kempton Park BMX community, with local riders making their mark in the competitive world of BMX racing.
