Thembisa Mile 2025 launched with R114k in prize money and community spirit

Thembisa Mile returns on 26 October at Olifantsfontein Sports Grounds, offering equal prize money for men and women, family-friendly races, and a celebration of fitness and unity.

The Thembisa Mile is back, promising another exciting calendar year of running, healthy living and community spirit.

On August 29, the 2025 edition was launched at the Zamokuhle Hospital in Thembisa, ahead of the main event scheduled for October 26 at the Olifantsfontein Sports Grounds.

The race hopes to attract a sold-out 4 000 participants.

Registered participants can collect their race numbers from October 24 until race morning. For security reasons, no entries are allowed on the day of the event.

Founder Donald Mathipa shared details about the race and its prizes.

“The event’s primary aim is to provide a platform for athletes, from local talent to elite runners. This year, the race will award R114 000 in prize money, with winners of the 10km race each taking home R10 000, and elite mile winners R4 000. We are also focusing on children under 14 and 15, with the top three receiving SPAR vouchers.

“Importantly, we offer equal prize money for men and women.

“Last year, we hosted the first mile at the Olifantsfontein Sports Grounds with support from the CoE, and we are excited to return to the same venue this year.”

Sagran Sukhessan, the Lenmed Zamokuhle Private Hospital manager, spoke about the significance of the partnership.

“Our purpose as a family of 30 hospitals, including this one, is to build prosperity in the community. Supporting an event like the Thembisa Mile aligns perfectly with that mission.
