Avion Park Golf Club claims historic Ekurhuleni Senior League Championship
For the first time in its history, Avion Park Golf Club’s senior league team triumphed at the Ekurhuleni Golf Union Championships, defeating ERPM in a decisive final at Pollock Park Golf Club.
On September 6, the Avion Park Golf Club senior league team achieved a historic milestone by winning the Ekurhuleni Golf Union Championships for the first time in the club’s history.
The championship took place at Pollock Park Golf Club in Springs, where Avion Park competed against 16 clubs from across the East Rand.
Eight teams contested the A Division and eight in the B Division, with Avion Park advancing to the final against ERPM.

In the decisive clash, Avion Park secured victory by winning four of the six games, while ERPM claimed the remaining two.
Team member Mike van As said the squad was ecstatic about the result.

“The true success story of our team lies with our owner, Jurie Marais, and our captain, Nico Els. They led from the front, set the example, and anchored the strongest betterball pairing in the club.
“This is the first time in our history that Avion has won the senior league, and it has put us on the map. Avion Park has always been seen as East Rand minnows, but this win will be remembered for years to come. Next year, we go in as the defending champions.”
The team celebrated their victory in style, raising glasses of champagne after the final putt dropped.

Van As also credited the club’s transformation under Marais’s leadership.
“Over the last two years, Jurie has made several key changes. The club has had a facelift, amenities have been upgraded, and today we host ballet and fitness classes alongside darts tournaments and a range of other sports.”
The victory marks not only a triumph on the greens but also a proud new chapter for Avion Park Golf Club.
