Glen Marais dancer Millica Pelser takes world street dance title
Millica returned home as a World Street Dance champion, solidifying her status as one of the brightest young talents internationally.
Glen Marais’s own rising star, Millica Pelser, continues to dazzle on the international stage.
At just 11 years old, the dynamic young performer recently represented South Africa at the prestigious Freestyles World Championship in Blackpool, England, and she did not disappoint.
Millica returned home as a World Street Dance Champion, firmly establishing herself as one of the brightest young talents in global dance. She competed against 88 dancers from more than 34 countries.

“The feeling is absolutely amazing. I was overwhelmed, yet so grateful. All my hard work paid off,” said Millica.
“Becoming a world champion at 11 is an extraordinary achievement, and I’m proud of myself. My love for dance opens the world to me. I believe it gives me a unique mindset. I know I can do anything with God by my side and by believing in myself.”
She said one of her most memorable moments was hearing she had made it to the finals.
“We started with eight rounds, and by the final round, I stayed positive, trusting that God would protect me no matter what. The feeling was just indescribable.”
After also competing in 2023, Millica returned to this year’s championship with a fresh mindset and renewed focus.
“I learned that nothing is impossible as long as I enjoy what I do and stay focused.”
Her preparation was no easy feat. Long hours of training, dedication, and even “bloody feet.” But her passion for dance made every moment worth it.

Millica trains at Dynamic Dance Studio in Benoni under the guidance of her coach, Sanchia Lamprecht, who is also a reigning Adult World Champion.
“We worked on several combinations and footwork until we found the routine that truly suited me,” Millica explained. “Sanchia is the most amazing person. I love her dearly.”
She said her biggest challenge was ensuring that everything came together at the right moment to leave an impression on the judges.
“I used my 2023 experience to stay calm and stay true to myself. My goal was to make my RSA mark on the dance floor.”
Millica’s dance journey began when she was just 18 months old, and her commitment has only grown since. She became a South African champion at age seven, a title she has proudly held ever since.
“Street dance is one of my favourites because of the music,” she said. “But disco is my absolute favourite. Music is the reason why we dance.”

Despite her demanding dance schedule, Millica maintains a 90% academic average at Laerskool Kruinsig, where she is also part of the A-teams for netball and hockey.
Although she had to miss a recent hockey tour to attend the world championship, her teammates sent her a heartfelt video message that meant the world to her.
She attributes her success to the support of her family, friends, teachers, dance family, and especially her mom.
“My mom is my biggest fan. I love them all with my whole heart.”
Looking ahead, Millica dreams of dancing on Broadway in New York. But she also hopes to become a chiropractor one day while continuing to pursue her passion for dance.
“Always enjoy what you’re doing. Practice like you’ve never won, and perform like you’ve never lost,” she said.

In 2024, she committed herself to training harder while also spending more time with family and friends. Now, as a world champion, she remains grounded, grateful, and proudly South African.
“I carry South Africa deep in my heart with pride. I’m extremely happy, excited, and blessed to say I won, and I am from South Africa.”
Her mother, Sulize Pelser, said she was filled with pride.
“My feelings are mixed, but filled with positive energy. I am extremely blessed and grateful to have such an extraordinarily talented daughter who never gives up on herself.”
