The competition kicks off at 16:00, with finals taking place under the night sky, illuminated by bursts of pyrotechnics. Riders earn points in the Best Whip qualifying rounds, judged on style, amplitude and variation.
The FMX Best Trick contest heats up the stage with upright and inverted tricks, with competitors battling for cash prizes and special awards from event partners.
Defending his title is Belgium’s Julien Vanstippen, fresh from winning his second X-Games Best Whip gold medal, looking to extend his dominance.

Vicki Golden, one of action sports’ biggest names, will make her King of the Whip debut, while Australia’s Pat Bowden returns after wowing fans with last year’s FMX Best Trick performance. Local stars Dallan Goldman and Dalton Venter are also in the hunt for podium positions.

“King of the Whip has evolved into a powerhouse event, drawing fans from across South Africa and internationally.
“This year promises to be our biggest and boldest edition yet. Spectators are in for a treat,” said event organiser Ryan van der Spuy.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, title sponsor of the event, emphasises the alignment between the riders’ fearless energy and the brand’s spirit.
“Just as our vehicles perform under pressure, so do these riders. King of the Whip celebrates South African talent, grit and pushing boundaries,” said Princess Ndhlovu, brand head for Volkswagen.

For newcomers, a whip is a manoeuvre where a rider dramatically swings the rear of their airborne motorcycle sideways, a display of style, skill and speed.
Families and friends are invited to witness the action, with food and beverages available on site.
Tickets start at R300 and can be purchased at Howler.co.za
