I would like to say something concerning employment agencies.

Because so many companies no longer have their own personnel departments, they rely on employment agencies to find their staff. Under some circumstances that might work but with engineering it fails miserably.

The staff at these employment agencies have no experience dealing in that area. A lot of people in this country are unemployed because of it. I am one of them.

The agencies don’t even reply to job applications. In fact, the one agency in Kempton Park treated me as if I was some creature that had crawled out from under a rock.

Their staff were very rude, claiming to be “so busy”. If there is a shortage of work these days, why are they so busy? Busy doing what?

Various people have suggested to me that the problem comes from the fact that agencies are giving available positions to family and friends, whether that is true or not is a matter of debate but it makes one wonder.

A message to all the companies out there, if you want competent staff, then interview them yourself, do not leave it to people that have no experience with the positions.

A message to employment agencies, a lot of experience can cover many different aspects of work and need not be specific.

A message to all those already employed, stop going on strike for more pay, one day you will also be unemployed, no money is far worse.

If companies were allowed to employ the best person for the job, then more young people could be trained. There is no shortage of skilled people, as it is suggested, companies just don’t want to employ us. Remember that retirement age is 65 not 50.
