Newfilm partnership launched in City

The purpose of the MOU is to formalise co-operation and collaboration between the parties on film and broadcast skills development

AS Ekurhuleni City’s vision for an aerotropolis gains momentum and set to create thousands of jobs, the city’s creative industry is hectic strategising to ensure they don’t lag behind.

In November a memorandum of agreement (MOU) between Jintek Film and Television and Rhythm Cycle Projects, an East Rand based production company, was signed.

“We are excited about this new partnership which I believe is the result of hard work and commitment demonstrated by both parties,”says Basil Dube, executive director of Jintek Film and Television School in Pretoria.

According to the memorandum of agreement, Jintek Film School and Rhythm Cycle will collaborate in presenting a series of accredited film and television courses to over 600 young people in Ekurhuleni over the next three years. Dube said during this period, there will be a strong emphasis on the production of short films, documentaries and animation projects.

The purpose of the MOU is to formalise co-operation and collaboration between the parties on film and broadcast skills development and training, research, exhibitions and education exchange programmes.

Through the Jintek Media Institute, part of Jintek Varsity College in Pretoria will assist Rhythm Cycle Projects with the processes such as accrediting its courses and programmes, film copyright and Intellectual Property (IP) education, film adaptation and marketing and distribution.

“We are establishing the East Rand as a new and vibrant film hub in Gauteng. We have identified an old and abandoned building next to Boksburg Lake which we intend to transform into a fully fledged film academy and production house,” said Dube.
