KEMPTON Park resident, Tumelo Tshetlo (27), known to fans by her stage name Melo the SoulSista, will release her debut single, titled Thato, this Friday.
Born in Mafikeng, North West, she moved to Kempton Park and works as a journalist in the Caxton Community Newspapers’ East Rand branch. However, she has always been in love with music and enjoys writing, composing, performing and producing.
Thato is a quirky anecdote about falling in love, written, produced and composed by the artist herself and comes just in time as Valentine’s Day looms next month.
“After collaborating with a number of popular Motswako artists and award winning hip hop artist, Cassper Nyovest (of Gusheshe fame), I took a leap of faith as a solo artist,” she said.
She describes her music as Motswako Soul – a combination of Setswana and English lyrics on a soulful-jazzy melody.
Apart from being a singer and songwriter, she is also able to play the piano and now works with a five-piece band to realise her dream.
“It was amazing to meet artists who believe in my music and this genre and I’m glad to be working with people who will help me realise my vision,” she added.
