No help with blocked drains

'My yard looked and smelled like a sewage farm'

MARYNA writes:

I would like to report the shocking response we have experienced with Ekurhuleni Municipality.

We phoned them January 29 to report blocked drains in Drakensberg Avenue. We were given a reference number and told the plumbers would respond to our call.

By January 30 nobody had been sent out and you can imagine what our yard looked like with our house being the second house from the problem.

After numerous calls to 0860 543 000 with no answer, out of frustration, we phoned the emergency phone number, 011-458-0911011-458-0911.

Eventually, after 10 minutes, a person in the fire department answered the phone and with an arrogant attitude asked me what my emergency was.

Can you imagine if we had a fire? Our house would have burned down in the 10 minutes I had to hold on just for someone to answer the emergency phone number we dialled, and then the arrogance.

As if to say, how dare you phone this number, we are sitting and doing the usual, nothing. When I asked him for assistance with a number for the sewage department, he replied he could not help. I have to hold the line for another 10 minutes, got through to the correct department and again was told my call was logged and would be forwarded for attention.

On January 31, still no Ekurhuleni Municipality vehicle in sight. My yard looked and smelled like a sewage farm.

Again I phoned the municipality, asking, even begging, for assistance and yet again I was told my call would be forwarded to the plumbers to attend to my problem?
