Kemptonian lands cat role in play
She said acting and becoming a specific character could be a challenge at times but that she loved every single thing about theatre
MINETTE Bouma (21) from Kempton Park plays the roles of the Cheshire Cat and the Duchess in the stage production of Alice in Wonderland at the People’s Theatre.
Bouma, who has been performing on stage since she was about seven years old, said she did not audition for a specific role. At first, she did not get a call.
Then, one day out of the blue, she was called and offered the roles of the Cheshire Cat and the Duchess.
Bouma is an old learner of Hoƫrskool Jeugland where she was chairman of the social council and participated in cultural activities and various sports.
She did a course in Zumba instruction and will eventually start instructing, but she said that her passion lied on the stage.
She did a two-year course in musical conservation at the New York Film Academy after receiving a $10 000 scholarship to study there.
She said she and her co-actors got along great in the six hours they rehearse every day.
Other productions in which she has appeared include Droombos (Atterbury Theatre and Aardklop 2013), Odd Ball (NY), Shakespeare in Times Square, Writopia Lab’s world wide plays festival (NY), Skouspelle at NYFA and high school productions (Jeugland).
She also appeared in Lifeless, a short film (NY).
During her high school years she was culture girl of the year, choir girl of the year, revue girl of the year and Jeuglander of the year.
She said acting and becoming a specific character could be a challenge at times but that she loved every single thing about theatre.
