Motshana scoops award
Local coach, Mr Lordwick Motshana, scooped the award for being the Sports Fan of the Year.
The award was presented during the Ekurhuleni Sports Awards which were held at the Birchwood and Conference Centre on Friday last week.
Mr Motshana was honoured by the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mondli Gungubele.
He was also received R5 000 as part of his award.
Mr Motshana, a Winnie Mandela resident, said he could not believe it when sports presenter Ms Carol Tshabalala announced his name as the winner of the special award.
His involvement in soccer began in 2004, when he formed a team for elderly women called Motshana FC.
“Since I am developing football in the area, I now own several teams. My aim is to see soccer growing within the Winnie Mandela Informal Settlement,” he said.
His love for soccer grew after he was encouraged by Mr Sadam Maake, the number one fan of Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs, to support football in the country.
“I used to play soccer during my primary school days but I loved coaching more than playing,” he added.
His dream is to see himself producing the best players, playing for professional teams.
