Maokeng Rangers FC were beaten 4-2 by Knorr FC in a friendly match played at the Maokeng extension sports grounds on Sunday.
Both teams displayed good spirits, but it was Maokeng Rangers who were the first to score. Rangers’ defender, Nkululeko Thomo, managed to sneak the ball past Knorr FC’s ‘keeper to take his team into the lead just 15 minutes into the game. The remainder of the first half played out with neither team managing another goal.
Both teams seemed to come back re-invigorated in the second half and the goals began flowing for both sides.
A free kick was awarded to Rangers after a Knorr player committed a foul. Thomo took the opportunity to heart and managed to slot the ball into the net for a second goal.
Knorr FC pushed back hard and began attacking from the centre of the field. Knorr’s midfielder, Biza Sodi, used this new attack to score a brace, bringing his team back into the game and levelling the scoreboard.
The rapid pair of goals renewed Knorr FC’s fighting spirit and the team went on a goal rampage, scoring another two more through Nico Matjena and Oscar Matjena, bringing the score to 4-2 in Knorr’s favour.
Xolani Ncqobo, Knorr FC’s coach, said he was impressed with his team and how they played.
“It was a good game to watch. My players proved their talent, especially in the second half. They took advantage of their opponents and used every opportunity to score,” said Ncqobo.
